Brad Lander Wants to Legalize Basements in Brooklyn
To all those who are waiting for NYC to do something about the illegal basements, you don’t have to wait much longer. (Story here)
The Socialist Comptroller of NYC, Brad Lander has the Basement Resident Protection Law. (Lander is a self-proclaimed socialist – see here)
The Basement Resident Protection Law which will create a “basement board” to oversee this. (Don’t count on anyone who owns or lives in this type of building to be on the board, as the property tax commission was composed of a “unique” group).
These basement conversions will no longer be called illegal apartments, they would be called accessory dwelling units or ADUs.
They haven’t done a enough to correct the problems that caused the deaths from Hurricane Ida that killed eleven people in NY.
It’s always bad news with Brad Lander. He may be a socialist, but he is anything but equitable. Lander pays less than half the property taxes of our neighborhood. He has known about this inequity for many years and hasn’t done anything to correct the problem.
