Proposed Truck Route for 3rd Avenue From 65th Street to 86th Street

Last night, Community Board 10 held their meeting over Zoom.

Community Board 10 revealed that the NYC Department of Transportation wants to run a truck route through 3rd Avenue from 65th Street to 86th Street.

The DOT does not care that the new truck route will cause safety concerns, pollution, noise or impact people dining outside of restaurants and cafes in Bay Ridge.

Community Board 10 voted to send a letter to DOT and elected officials outlining concerns and requesting traffic studies, enforcement details for overweight trucks and considerations for alternatives routes (such as 7th Avenue).

Councilwoman Kayla Santosuosso and Senator Andrew Gounardes did not attend the Zoom meeting. You have the wrong people in office – if they can’t show up for a Zoom meeting for the community board. they shouldn’t be in office.

Members of Community Board 10 want a public workshop with DOT officials to engage the community.

A handful of CB 10 members were upset by this. Merchant on 3rd Avenue are not going to appreciate this. In Sunset Park, 3rd Avenue is commercial and it’s not the center of the community. Look:

Today, CB 10 should have shared the information that they received from the city on social media. They aren’t good at sharing information.

Councilmember Kayla Santosuosso should have shared the information today as well.

Senator Andrew Gounardes represents a lot of the area where the truck route is, He should have spoken up, but as usual he is silent. Gounardes didn’t even speak up for the Citibike riders!

Bay Ridge, if this is the first time you are hearing this topic, then you know our politicians and Community Board are doing a poor job at communicating with the community.

Hugs,
marlene
