SuperFresh Grocery Store is Taking Over Century’s 87th Street Home Store in Bay Ridge

From the Home Reporter

Wayne Daren Schneiderman of the Home Reporter broke the story that Century’s Home Store on 87th Street is going to become a SuperFresh grocery story.

The Home Reporter has the story on the cover of the paper, but I didn’t see it online yet.

Century’s owner, the Gindi family sold the property to the Abed family for $28 million dollars.

Sam Abed is the owner of several SuperFresh stores including the one at 242 Bay Ridge Avenue. These stores operate under the Key Food banner.

Senator Andrew Gounardes was at a Superfresh grand opening in our area, so when it was announced that the Abel Family purchased the property months ago, Gounardes should have congratulated the Abeds and shared that Superfresh was coming to 87th Street. News:

Many residents were disappointed to hear that Superfresh was the new grocery store opening in our area because residents wanted a Trader Joes, due to their lower cost groceries.

For years, Councilman Justin Brannan kept stringing people along saying “Stay tunedwhen someone asked on Facebook if Trader Joes was coming to Bay Ridge. Brannan also would write updates like this:

Meanwhile, Justin Brannan knew how the Trader Joes deal was killed. Trader Joes made plans to come to Trader Joes, but Justin Brannan and an unregistered lobbyist had other plans for that property. A reporter shared why Trader Joes didn’t come to Bay Ridge here:
