PRIDE Isn’t a Photo-Op, Andrew Gounardes

Today, Senator Andrew Gounardes walked in the Pride Parade in Park Slope. I don’t think Andrew Gounardes attended Gay Ridge’ Pride event at Owls Head Park this year.

More importantly, Senator Andrew Gounardes has not spoken out or taken action when hate towards the LGBT community has appeared in Bay Ridge.

Wearing the rainbow and giving out flags is nice, but our community needs a leader to stand up against the hate.
The rainbow bench on Shore Road, that is a memorial to a teen in our community has been defaced several times and good people in the community have repainted it several times. See story:

After the second repainting, we should have seen Andrew Gouanardes take action. A camera placed in the area and a sign telling the haters they are being filmed will probably put an end to the nonsense.
Before the Pride bench, Pride flags were removed and even burned in Bay Ridge. And political leaders failed to take action to stop the hate.
Bay Ridge residents spoke out against the hate:
Politicians should have spoken out at that time and replaced the Pride flags to send the message to young people in our community that behavior is not acceptable. Senator Andrew Gounardes did not take action.
This week on social media, a video of some adults and children in Bay Ridge appeared. The person filming the video showed a transgender flag and said and tell me about trans rights.
(Warning on video – foul language and hate: https://x.com/EYakoby/status/1933170492166521160)
Gounardes and Brannan were tagged on the video and they ignored it, instead of speaking out against it. Gounardes is on X every day playing around, so he should have responded against the hate.
