Scam Alert: A 71-Year-Old Woman in Bay Ridge Took Out $20,000 From the Bank and Gave It to This Man

The NYPD’s flyer says: “On Friday, April 25th around 11:00 am on 71st Street and Colonial Road, the man in the picture deceived a 71-year-old victim by using a customer service fraud protection scam on her computer! The man told the Bay Ridge senior to remove $20,000 from her bank account or the money would be taken out as penalty. She went to the bank and then the man came to her house and she gave him the money.“
THIS HAPPENED TWELVE DAYS AGO? WHY AREN’T WE GIVING EVERYONE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD A HEADS UP?
A kind Ridgite shared the sign that is only posted in some areas of the neighborhood:

Why isn’t this man’s picture and the story behind it being shared by every elected leader? Justin Brannan and Andrew Gounardes should have posted it on social media by now.
Today, the 68th Precinct shared on social media a warning about not using a jammed machine or a stranger offering assistance. Never let someone handle your bank card.

Why don’t leaders in Bay Ridge give each other a heads up the way we do as neighbors? Please share the sign, Bay Ridge.

Call 1-800-577-8477 if you know anything about this man.
Hugs,
marlene
