Is Fishing Happening at the Mailbox on 3rd Avenue and 84th Street or the Mail Facility?
A Bay Ridge resident shared that he recently mailed a check to a charity. He put the envelope in the blue mailbox on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 84th Street in Bay Ridge. Thank you to this neighbor for sharing this information!
The Bay Ridge resident was contacted by his bank because his stolen checks were listed for sale on the Dark Web. Checks are sold to thieves who whitewash them to use. The resident was lucky because the bank was able to cancel the account number before anything was done.
This resident told the police and the police did not seem to care. He also reported it to the Postal Inspector.
A few weeks ago, there was a note on the two mailboxes on 75th and 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge also saying that checks were stolen! More residents were trying to give neighbors a heads-up that thieves have targeted these boxes with glue and they are stealing checks.
The Post Office is going to want to take away these boxes, but people in our community use these boxes. A clever Bay Ridge woman (with beautiful hair) recommended that the mailboxes be secured in indoor locations, like banks.
Hugs,
marlene
