CB 10 Meeting – October 21, 2024 – Why Won’t They Discuss the Homeless Shelter?

It’s another Community Board 10 Meeting that we call: See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. Local issues are ignored and not resolved.

On Monday, October 21st, there is a Community Board 10 Meeting at 7:00 pm at the Bay Ridge Center at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue at 7:00 pm.

Notice that CB 10’s agenda does not include: the homeless shelter at 6530 – 4th Avenue. Last November, Josephine said one sentence about the shelter and then never spoke about it again. Not one member of CB 10 asked for more information.

Josephine had the information about the shelter since November 9, 2023. Why didn’t Josephine share the information from the letter she received with the community? Josephine was aware that the shelter was for 105 people.

While Justin Brannan said the homeless shelter was for Veterans and it won’t open until 2025, the letter says it is for 105 people and will open in late 2024.

Justin Brannan received this letter on November 9, 2023 as well.

Why didn’t Brannan share it with the people who live in The Towers?

Justin Brannan didn’t tell the community because it was election season. Why didn’t Josephine share the letter with the residents that lived in the towers?

This is all that Josephine said:

Transcribed:

Community board 10 was notified by the Department of Social Services that a homeless shelter will be constructed at 4th Avenue. Um we were just notified by Department of Social Services and we’llbe reaching out to the agent agency and the service provider um at an upcoming committee meeting to learn more information about that location.

Josephine had a lot more information – why did she and Community Board 10 withhold that?

Why didn’t Josephine or the members of Community Board 10 provide that letter (or the contents) to the community?

On the shelter’s document it says that different people will be at the shelter every 30 days:

The Mayor made thirty days is the limit for the migrant shelters:

*If you noticed, construction has been halted at the homeless shelter site. Did they discover something while they demolishing the old building?

Other items Community Board 10 has not shared information on:

1) The high school on Ovington Avenue has not been discussed by Community Board 10. The Community was left with many unanswered questions. CB 10 voted against this location because there were problems. The school construction authority was unable to answer a lot of questions including why that property was chosen over the bank on 4th Avenue. Why didn’t Josephine get answers for the community?

2) Shore Hill – the developer won in NYC Council. How did the developer win when NYC Council usually defers to the Council representative from the area?

3) Was the sewer on 10 Avenue in the 80’s fixed, so that people’s homes aren’t flooded? Why hasn’t a resolution been announced yet?

4) Even the people requesting pickleball courts didn’t receive a response or help.

Hugs,
marlene
