Coney Island Bodega Owner Attacked & Racial Slurs – 1716 Mermaid Avenue
Jamal Sawaid, a grocery store owner in Coney Island was attacked with a metal object and the assailant used racial slurs. (He’s really hurt – caution before clicking here) This happened at the bodega at 1716 Mermaid Avenue.
Councilman Ari Kagan quickly spoke out against the attack and shared what happened with the community:
Jamal Sawaid is known in Coney Island because he donated pre-packaged meals during the pandemic. He was honored by former Assemblymember Mathlde Frontus. (Seen here)

Jamal Sawaid returned to work the next day.
