Homeless Shelter Coming to 65th Street and 7th Avenue
Update: See the meeting that CB 10 had about this shelter (Here)
A homeless shelter is being planned for 7th Avenue and 65th Street in the empty gas station lot.
Yesterday, the American New York Chinese Association and Curtis Sliwa protested the shelter and demanded housing for the homeless.
The pandemic has been very hard on families. And this shelter is being planned for families. But the people marching against the shelter wouldn’t know that because the Councilman hasn’t shared the information with the community.
When people don’t have the information, it makes them afraid and they begin to think about the worst possible scenarios. Now imagine if someone shared this information months ago and continued to update about the shelter for families.
Curtis Sliwa is correct that they need temporary housing not a shelter.
For our area, Radiofree Bay Ridge revealed there were over 100 – 120 people homeless and Councilman Brannan put zero dollars into housing this year. (See here)
Oswald Feliz, a NYC Councilman in the Bronx, took office on April 15, 2021. In June, Oswald funded NYCHA developments in his area with 4.5 million dollars. (See here)
On November 4th, at 7:00 pm, Community Board 10 will have a Zoom meeting senior issues, housing, health and welfare committee. You can register to speak here
