Gluten Free Restaurants in Bay Ridge and Brooklyn

Bay Ridge Pizzerias with Gluten Free Pizza:

 

 

1. Frankie’s of Bay Ridge 279 – 71st Street – Gluten free pizza – actually taste good.

2. Firefly has a lot of choices – It’s good.

 

4. La Bella Roma Pizzeria – 3rd Avenue and 71st Street has good GF Pizza. 

 

5.  Nonno’s Pizzeria has a personal size gf pizza 12 inches  8816 – 3rd Avenue  718-238-6200.  The best gluten free pizza is said to be at Jimmy Max in Staten Island.  

 

 

6. Bay Ridge Pizza– their gluten free pizza is really good. The don’t have dairy-free cheese (yet). They also have gluten-free vodka pizza and gf chicken Parmesan, but I haven’t tried those. 7704 5th Avenue 718-680-5405    Look:

 

 

 

Bay Ridge Restaurants with Gluten Free Menus or Good For Those with Allergies:  

 

1) Beets and Carrots  9905 – 3rd Avenue. The chef there is amazing!

 

2) Blue Door  8413 3rd Avenue  Brooklyn, New York 11209 – Chicken skewers over salad – no pita (or shrimp or pork skewers)

 

3) Tanoreen – they have a lot of items on their menu that are marked gf  – 7523- 3rd Avenue

 

4)Baya Bowls  9417 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11209 – juices and acai fruit bowls

5) Nature’s Grill  7417 3rd Avenue – Gluten free bread for burgers

 8) The Brooklyn Firefly has an amazing gluten free pizza. 7003 3rd Avenue. 718-833-5000.

 

7) Gino’s now has gluten-free pasta   7414 5th Avenue.  718-748-1698

  

6) Ho’brah has gluten free options on he menu. 8618 3rd Avenue. Also they are very understanding of celiac disease and won’t cross contaminate. 718-680-8226.

 

 

9) Blue Agave – 7215 3rd Avenue. They have corn tortillas

 

 

10) Istanbul– Turkish cuisine (be aware they they use nuts) – 8002 – 5th Avenue

 

11) First Oasis  Middle Eastern cuisine  9218 4th Avenue

 

12) Bombay Grill – Indian cuisine – 8716 3rd Avenue 

  

13) Bagel Schmagel has gluten free bagels. 7510 3rd Avenue

 

OUTSIDE OF BAY RIDGE

 

1) Outback Steak House (slightly outside Bay Ridge) – ribs, sweet potatoes, beware of caesar salad with croutons  1475 – 86th Street

 

2) Shake Shack has gluten-free Shackburgers and buns – 3 locations in Brooklyn  

 

3) Risoterria is an entirely gf restaurant on Bleeker St in the Village.

1. Canyon Bakehouse Bagels – sold at Superfresh in the freezer. Everything flavor.

2. Udi Bagels – Foodtown sells them upstairs – cheapest

3. Bagel Schmagel 7510 3rd Avenue (hard – don’t get their GF ones – go to Wegman’s)

4. Wegman’s 21 Flushing Avenue – huge new store

Gluten Free Bakeries in Bay Ridge or Nearby

 

1) Bay Ridge Bakery 7805 – 5th Avenue  Bay Ridge bakery has a good selection and GF bread as well. Look at the gluten free donuts:

 

 

 


2) Little Cupcake Bakeshop has a small selection – cupcakes. They have a gluten free banana cupcake that is amazing – moist cake and sweet frosting (if you don’t like sweet icing – don’t order this). You may need to order in advance.

 

3) Jean Dante Bakery 7526 5th Avenue

 

4)Terri B is known for making delicious pies (banana or chocolate cream pie $35) and gf treats (brownies – 1 dozen $20)

 

5) Tasty Pastry 8218 – 13th Avenue – They have gluten free bread in the freezer available every day. You can order the following gluten free pies and cakes: chocolate mousse cake, strawberry shortcake, flourless chocolate cake, cheesecake, apple, pie, apple crumb pie, and blueberry crumb pie

 

 

6) LaBella Supermarket on 79th Street and 13th Avenue has gluten free Italian bread and baguettes in their gluten free freezer. 

 

7) Yo Sweets Frozen Yogurt 8410 5th Ave Brooklyn

 

 

 

8) Clementine Baker – 395 Classon Avenue

 

 

 Gluten/dairy/soy/nutfree – there is  a place in Downtown Manhattan – see  

 

 

 

 

Bay Ridge Church – St. Andrews has gluten free hosts.

 

 

 

 
 
 
If you invited someone over who is Gluten free – Don’t go crazy – keep it simple:
 
  • All boars head cold cuts are gluten free. Get some Udi’s GF bread and serve sandwiches. (Costco sell the giant 30 ounce Udi’s bread for $6.69). My grandmother used to make a tray of cold cuts, bread and pickles all the time and everyone loved that.

 

  • Fruit and veggies are gluten free

 

  • Cheerios are gluten free.

 

  • Trader Joes has gluten free muffins and pretzels (they are delicious)

 

  • Pasta: Barilla has gluten free pasta and Harvest brand
 
  • Girl Scout Cookie – toffeetastic is a gluten free cookie – look
 
 
  • Go to the upstairs section of Foodtown  –  Evans gluten free chicken nuggets and tenders, Udi’s bread

 

People who have gluten allergies can eat fruits, veggies and meats without any problems. Gluten is a protein found in certain grains (wheat, barley and rye). Someone with a gluten allergy avoids flours but can eat rice and potatoes and oats. Some people who have gluten allergies also have Celiac Disease  so they have to avoid gluten entirely or he/she be sick. Cross contamination is the problem – shared utensils or tools in the kitchen (such as knives, cutting boards and strainers)
