I just heard that James Gottlieb died. The world went quiet as I remembered James and the last time I spoke to him.
I knew James long before I moved to Bay Ridge. I think everyone who went out in Bay Ridge knew him. James always had a great stories to tell, usually about people in Bay Ridge. When I would run into people from Bay Ridge that I didn’t know, they would name people they knew and everyone named James Gottlieb.
James was a kind person who loved his family. Whenever I would see him, James would show me pictures, as he was proud to be an uncle. James was proud of being Irish and loved to celebrate St. Patty’s Day.
Over the past few years, James had experienced the deaths of several key people in his life. He lost his mother and then the following year, his brother died. My family had experienced the same with my father and brother’s deaths in successive years. When I talked to James after his brother died, I told him that we would have a lot of people in heaven waiting for us. He told me I wasn’t going to get in and each time I ran into him, he jokingly reminded me of this.
RIP James. I’m sure your Mom and brother met you. You left this world way too soon. Prayers for James family.
