New Street Lamps in Bay Ridge
I got several messages asking me what I thought about the new street lamps in Bay Ridge. The Department of Transportation (DOT) installed LED bulbs. which are cheaper and last longer. I know some people don’t like them, but we do. Opinions vary quite a bit on this topic because the angle in which everyone is receiving the light from the lamp is different, as well as the placement of bedrooms in homes are different (see article photos – her house is so close to the street lamp). Out street lamps are not right outside our house so the light looks fine and actually great to us. If the lamp was right outside our house or adjacent to our home, I probably wouldn’t like them so much. But we aren’t the first to get them and people in other neighborhoods have adapted.
I like that the light from the lamps is bright and white because it makes the area feel safer. I leave the light outside my home on all night because I didn’t want people to walk in a dark area outside my home and not feel safe while they are on their way home.
If the light is too bright or you want to complain, write to Community Board 10 [email protected] Josephine Beckmann, the District Manager of Community Board 10 will be asking the DOT to consider adding a diffuser or buffer on the lights. Her number is 718-745-6827 [email protected]
Hugs,
marlene
