When is the 18th Avenue Feast 2019?

“When is the 18th Avenue Feast?” is a question I am always asked.

Also known as the Festa di Santa Rosalia, this year the Feast of St. Rosalie or the Italian feast is being held from Thursday, August 22nd to Sunday, September 1st from 68th Street to 75th Street. During the week, it opens at 6:00 pm and closes at 11:00 pm. On the weekend, it opens at 2:00 pm.

We went on Friday night and it was really good. A lot of people came back this year and the streets were packed. There was a good mix of food and music. We had a great time seeing everyone.

We didn’t go on Saturday night, but we heard the streets were packed  because everyone came back again. Next weekend, everyone said they are coming in again because it was so good.  The last Sunday in September (the 29th) is the 3rd Avenue Festival 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, so they are coming back for that too.

Why is it better this year? I think the people who planned it did a better job.  The way the merchants and the music is on the street is really good – like it’s setup right. They also  got the word out early this year.

Things are a little expensive at street fairs everywhere – not just this one.

Tickets are $1.25 per ticket and the rides need 3-6 tickets. The ferris where is 6 tickets. Bring a kid on it and see their eyes widen when you reach the top – priceless!

If

Every year, there is always a little teenage drama at the fair (it’s what teenagers do, in case you forgot).

Some people were worried when they saw the  Guardian Angels and Curtis Sliwa.  You will see Sliwa posing in pictures all over social media because there he doesn’t have anything else to do at the fair.

Can someone tell me why this is 10 days long? It brings nothing to the neighborhood except drunks screaming all night, the streets are filthy and oily because people are slobs, and it makes all the Asian businesses in the area lose money. Come to 18th Avenue on the first Monday morning after the feast and you see the trash overflowing on the street corners and you can smell the dirty fry oil. It’s disgusting. Then you get the complainers who moved out of the area make racist remarks about the changes in the neighborhood. Who benefits from this? Not the people who live and work on the blocks around it.

The feast used to be nice . Now everything is over priced the food is terrible and the sausage gets smaller every year and jts like 10 dollars for bread and onions. Also you get retards that bring a pitbull to the feast who brings a dog to the feast espicially the ones that can bite . The vendors harrass you all night long with their 3 or 5 dollar games. They actually get nasty . After 10 their is always fight you get the young wanna be gangsters that run through the crowd to fight . Instead of going to fight and kill each other like in a park they have go make a scene in front of the few young kids that go to the feast. Best thing about that feast is the music, police presence and when the cops start to close the feast for the night .

I am not Italian but do enjoy the small bit of Italian food they offer. I do wish though that the Italians vendors displayed more love for Italy & what their culture is all about. I like the fact that it’s a fun thing to do but they should really increase the amount of security because these young wanna be thugs come to ruin it every ending night. Increase the cleanliness of the festival overall, make every vendor scrub the sidewalks they are using and the street as well.Keep it green & clean for all!

Who are you kidding, saying the businesses lose money, you need to wake-up fool, they don’t lose anything because they have all cash businesses and don’t claim hardly anything legally. Besides the fact that there are how many in one family with the same name all using one social security number.
