Private Legislation for Immigration
Journalist, Julianna McShane shared information about a private bill that Nydia Velazquez wrote to help Ravi Ragbir (ICE is trying to deport him)
McShane shared: “There’s info online – I just learned about this today as well. A private bill requires the same approval process as a “public” bill to become law, with the support of both chambers & the president.”
It appears as though there’s 50 currently in Congress, but that they’re unlikely to pass & more symbolic than anything else. See here
You can see the current private legislation for NYS: here
McShane twitted: “However, per his legal team, Ragbir’s could still affect his chances that the judge would stay the deportation.”
