Assembly District 64 Pols to Replace Malliotakis
Marco Kepi from former Senator Golden’s office formerly announced that he is running. When Marco first started at Golden’s office, he was super-charged and went around spray painting graffiti in Bay Ridge. But then Marty Golden’s office was covered with controversy and Kepi’s account was part of it.
Kepi will face a primary from Michael Tannousis. Tannousis is 35-years-old and appears to have no ties to Brooklyn other than that he just started working for Connors and Sullivan Law Firm in July. “Tannousis believed Malliotakis performed well as an Assemblywoman.” ( SIGH…. that’s what a local paper said as a favorable statement about Tannousis. ) Tannousis hasn’t anything in Bay Ridge and in an interview doesn’t seem to know that he would be representing Bay Ridge, as well as Staten Island. During the Summer, Tannousis appeared at an with Malliotakis and looked very uncomfortable. Tannousis used to work for the Bronx District Attorney.
Brandon Patterson, the Democrat from Diane Savino’s office is hoping to flip the seat blue. Patterson works for the tail of the IDC – Diane Savino is the only member of the IDC left in government. The IDC are politicians who ran as Democrats, but then supported Republicans. I’m not sure Brooklyn Democrats are going to relate to a man who has supported his boss voting with Republicans for years! Savino had a lot of money during her campaign and spend a lot of it needlessly as she didn’t have a competitive campaign. Like Savino, Patterson said he is focused on legalizing marijuana. Savino hasn’t been present in Brooklyn – that is evident by the condition of the Shore Road Bike Path. As you can see from the map below, the bike path is in both Savino (and Malliotakis’) district, yet only Councilman Justin Brannan is taking care of it. Patterson hasn’t even organized a clean-up here so how can he lead here?
We can’t confirm that Brandon Patterson knows where Bay Ridge is, since Patterson didn’t support Adam Baumel from Bay Ridge. Adam Baumel took on Malliotakis in 2017. Patterson was a District Leader, so he should have been banging he drum for Baumel in Staten Island, but he was silent. In prior years, when Democrats didn’t support Democrats, they were labeled bad Democrats (Treyger was silent when Kemmerer ran against Golden), so if the label fits – wear it! If Treyger comes out for Patterson, you will know he DEFINITELY isn’t a candidate for Bay Ridge.
Three male politicians and no females are running for this office. Both Kepi and Patterson will have a hard time shaking the negative impact of their past positions. Tannousis hasn’t done anything or stood for anything, so it’s pointless for him to be in the race. Will anyone else join the race?
Sadly, no one currently running for the 64th Assembly District lives in Bay Ridge. Personally, I feel like a parent, who is a conservative Democrat (like Vinny Gentile was) could win the seat.
Hugs,
marlene
