Mother Cabrini Procession 10/6 – She Built NYC And Deserves a Statue

On October 6, 2019 at 3:00 PM, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and the Italian Apostolate of the Diocese of Brooklyn will have a procession and Mass this Sunday to support the construction of a public statue recognizing Mother Cabrini as part of the “She Built NYC” program.  Mother Cabrini was denied a spot in the program – see here, here and here

Ironically, Mother Cabrini received the most votes for a statue, but was denied a place in NYC history because of her religious symbolism. Councilman Justin Brannan supports Mother Cabrini getting a statue. See letter.

The procession begins at 3:00 PM in Mother Cabrini Park at 41 President Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The procession will lead to Sacred Hearts – St. Stephen Church at 125 Summit Street for at Mass at 4 PM.

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the Patron Saint of Immigrants, arrived in New York in 1889 with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Mother Cabrini Park is located at the former site of a church building where Mother Cabrini first ministered to the poor immigrants of the Italian community.
