John Alexander Captures John Quaglione Complaining Online

On July 4th, the fireworks bothered a lot of parents with small children. Why? Because their kids and dogs are scared of the loud noises and can’t go to sleep.  People vent on Facebook about it. A local writer in Brooklyn made that into a newspaper article because it’s easy to get a story from Facebook than it is to actually go out and get the news.

Alexander captured the words of City Council Candidate John Quaglione: “Hey Mr. Mayor — It is now 12:16 and I am still hearing fireworks.”   Quaglione wrote: “One of the big problems is controlling access to them. I remember under Giuliani and Bloomberg the cops used to go out to New Jersey and Pennsylvania, hot spots where New Yorkers would buy fireworks, and follow them back to the city, and once they crossed the city line, they would arrest them. You know that approach would help to keep fireworks off the streets.”’

Why didn’t John Quaglione pick up the phone and call the police if he was so bothered by the noise and fireworks? We don’t need a councilman who is going to join the masses and sit around complaining on Facebook.  Our police department is already short-staffed so I don’t know why Quaglione would want the NYPD to follow kids buying fireworks.  We got bigger fish to fry in Brooklyn.

Here’s Quaglione complaining on Twitter. Two weeks ago, he was complaining about graffiti and not doing anything about that either. See here

I would like to the think the adults in Bay Ridge are a little more resilient and can stand a night of fireworks. Bath Beach had fireworks non-stop the whole week and only a few of those people complained.  Yes, the law is in your favor and fireworks are illegal, but you were young once. The sheer joy of lighting your own fireworks and then running for your life is a memory that many Brooklyn teens & young adults share.
