Cleaners & trying to be environmentally friendly

If you know me, you will know I am a germ-a-phob. It’s not really my fault though. It’s my mother’s fault. Ya know, when in doubt blame your mom, right? Seriously though, it is my mother’s fault.

My mother was a germ-a-phob and she made me one too. Although she was a stay-at-home Mom, there were times when she ventured out on the train to go shopping in Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn. My Mom believed that trains had the most germs and she didn’t want to bring the germs into a house full of children. I clearly remember her coming home and rushing to take a shower. Then she would take her clothes and bring them downstairs to the washing machine. When I asked her why she came in and showered, she said, “There are a lot of dirty people in New York.”  (LOL….she is right about that). My Mom even repeated this same routine each time she had to serve on jury duty because there’s a lot of dirty people in the courthouse too!  Luckily, I didn’t inherit the train/shower routine.

So I’m a germaphob and I like to clean deeply. I like love the smell of ammonia, but I no longer use it at my house or in my classroom because it is harmful to humans and pets breathing. Yet, I can’t find a cleaner that is green and cleans deeply. The green cleaners that I have tried don’t cut grease, produce the same shine or smell as good as my old cleaners and ammonia. I want to be green, but it’s not working for me.

Hugs,
marlene

I am a germ-freak, too! I constantly wash my hands, and freak about so many things. My dad is the culprit to my phob, though. :)

I’ve been let down by green cleaners in the past too, but seem to have some luck with Method cleaners. I can find them at Target, although if I use the Grapefruit scented on on stainless steel, it smells HORRIBLE. I use it on the counter tops instead. Works great!

Also, I was laughing about your description of your germ-phobe mom! Funny how that kind of stuff has a lasting impression, isn’t it? :-)
