Hit and Run on 87th Street and Ridge Blvd
This evening there was a hit-and-run incident on Ridge Blvd and 87th Street around 5:40 pm.
This sedan was severely damaged and the SUV in front of it had minor damage.
Witnesses wrote down the make and model of the hit-and-run vehicle and the license plate number too! These good neighbors neighbors also called the police, so there is a police report to help the owners of the damaged vehicles.

March 2, 2025New Sports Bar Coming to 8th Avenue & 73rd St.
Foul Play Sports Bar will be opening at 7217 – 8th Avenue, where the Purple Rose Bar used to be. That bar had a hard time when Covid happened. (See video)
Foul Play Sports Bar is owned by Ken Castellane. (See here)
There are 29 seats. There is a dj setup at this location (from the old bar). The hours of operation are: Sunday to Wednesday 12:00 – 2:00 am Thursday to Saturday 12:00 – 4:00 am. There is no smoking. Security guards will be there during events and when the place stays open to 4:00 am.
On Monday, March 24th, Community Board 10 will be discussing the liquor license for this new bar.

Menatique NY opened at 539 – 86th Street in Bay Ridge.
They sell modest fashionable hijabs, abayas and dresses. This looks like a higher quality shop.

March 2, 2025Parking Removed For the Yeshiva on 12th Ave.
Sign over the door of the new yeshiva
Residents were not happy to see ‘No Parking ‘signs had been put up on 12th Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets, as well as on 63rd Street.
These spots will be needed for buses for the new yeshiva, Talmud Torah Dchasidei Gur, which is opening at Angel Guardian Home.

Cars will be able to park on 12th Avenue after 7:00 pm, but they will need to move before 7:00 every day, but Saturday. The all boys high school will be open on Sunday.
Due to gerrymandered districts, Alexa Aviles represents this area in NYC Council and has not communicated with these residents. They should have received notice about the signs so they don’t get ticketed for parking there. I don’t think Aviles realizes this is part of this district.

In September, Mesa Charter High School 2 will open around the corner at 1222 – 63rd Street. (Info) This area is going to get a lot busier.

March 2, 2025Tree on Bliss Court Raised The Sidewalk – Councilman Brannan Couldn’t Help
This sidewalk on Bliss Court is going to cause someone to be seriously hurt.
The home owners reached out to Councilman Brannan for years and he hasn’t been able to help her.
The city should have removed the tree and replaced the sidewalk by now. I submitted it for the NYC trees and sidewalk program (see here).

K & Y Roses and Gifts opened at 8313 – 3rd Avenue (between Charmed Boutique and Polizzi’s Framing).
The bright pink storefront looks great and the store is beautiful with flowers and cute toys.

March 1, 2025The New Sanchos is Open on 3rd Ave. Bay Ridge
The New Sanchos opened at 6920 – 3rd Avenue and 69th in Bay Ridge (where Anapoli’s Ice Cream Parlor used to be).
Yes, this is one of the same owners from the original Sancho’s from 3rd Avenue between 74th and 75th Street. The other owner is no longer part of Sanchos.
People have already commented on how good the paella is at this place!
They serve breakfast and lunch as well now. Their dinner menu is the same as it was years ago.
Welcome back Sanchos! You were missed by many in Bay Ridge!

Gus Constantellis signed a book deal for a Greek cookbook called: My Dead Mom’s Recipes. That’s an interesting title.
The comedian, whose roots are in Bay Ridge, became TikTok famous while sharing his Mom, her personality and Greek recipes.
