Whose Making the Plans for Brooklyn?

It doesn’t take a genius to see that the wrong people have been making the plans for Brooklyn.

Some of these people are elected, but some of them aren’t. Some of them were appointed to offices by their friends who were elected representatives.

A LOT OF THEM are just wheeling and dealing for themselves.

Look at housing – rents are outrageous because AirBnB placed a demand on property. Homeowners can rent out their apartment for a week and make a month’s rent. Those with legal basements that used to be rented cheaply are no longer available because it’s easy to make at least $100 a night on them.

Who pushed AirBnb? Eric Adams, the Brooklyn Borough President and the man who used to be the head of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce pushed AirBnB. They acted like AirBnB was going to save Brooklyn by bringing a lot of tourists here.

What’s their expertise in urban housing? Very minimal at best. A demand on housing was created and residents are paying higher rents. Brooklyn didn’t need saving. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce was very interested in bringing large stores to Brooklyn (the kind at Industry City). Yes, Brooklyn could use that, but small stores really could have used it’s help. If you look at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s website, it’s terrible for Bay Ridge. Yet, City Council continues to throw money at that office.  The guy who used to work there moved on to another office and doesn’t care what his “Airbnb deal” did to communities.

We don’t need ex-cops or attorneys making decisions for Brooklyn. We need people who are passionate about Brooklyn  and understand that the community comes first. Brooklyn will flourish not only because of it’s proximity to Manhattan, but because people like the Brooklyn vibe…..even people out of state want to see Brooklyn (rather than the other boroughs) because of what they see on television and social media.
