Senator Gounardes’ Failed Street Safety Task Force

Senator Gounardes

Street safety isn’t Andrew Gounardes’ strong point here in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights.

Parents in Dyker Heights have been asking Gounardes for many months to make their area more secure.  All Gournardes has done is  put red light cameras and had a presser in their community. Gournades told the residents that the police were going to monitor the area better, but that didn’t happen. Then Gounardes told the paper we can’t expect a police officer on every corner. No one expects “a police officer on every corner”, but there are enough police to patrol and they don’t.

The streets in this neighborhood aren’t any safer, as residents continue to see drag racing people flying down the avenues. Gounardes could do a poll and confirm this.  Visitors to the area don’t care if they get tickets. Even as of this past Friday, parents asked Gounardes on Facebook to do something to help make their community safer.

Bay Ridge is constantly getting fooled by pols, who claim there is a  “task force,” but the task force doesn’t do anything.  (Remember the Breakfast Club?)

In February, Gounardes announced the task force here.  We haven’t seen this group do anything in the past eight months.  There are 15-20 members on Gounardes’ Safety Task Force, but the people didn’t want to give their names – see here.   Ironically, this article says that the Safety Task Force members wanted more bike lanes. Safety obviously isn’t a priority for Gounardes or members of his task force because most politicians in NYC have advocated FOR ONLY covered bike lanes…..except them.  Obviously, Gounardes bike riding friends are on the “Safety Task Force.”

This is Gounardes flyer for the meeting being held tomorrow night.   It is open to the public.   Gounardes invited Councilman Brad Lander to talk about his dead bill from June 2018.  Obviously, Gounardes has little respect for the task force members or he wouldn’t waste their time with a bill that hasn’t been passed.

When I mentioned Lander’s failed bill to Gounardes, he quoted his friends at the Streetblog as a source for information about Lander’s dead bill.  SERIOUSLY?!!

Just a refresher for those of you who might not know…the Streetblog was where the bike lanes for our area were announced.  Streetblog proudly shared that they were funded by Mike Bloomberg, until I made fun of the dumb Democratic politicians, who are being owned by Bloomberg. Magically Bloomberg’s name disappeared from it’s site in the last month or so.  See proof here

Bay Ridge, how can we let politicians know that we are tired of them playing games with fake task forces?
