NYC Council Plays Politics with Home Owners
NYC Council is playing games. While they formws a tax advisory committee, the group is just playing games and wasting time, but not changing antone’s tax.
With Corey Johnson as Speaker, this just isn’t a priority, so the tax advisory committee is going to hold hearings now and in the Spring. While that was an effective way for dealing with the MTA problem, that isn’t effective for property tax because all the data they needs is is already available – property tax records! Why do they need people to get up and say “Hey we are paying an unreasonable amount of tax – can you check that all parts of the city are being charged at the same rate?”
The city continues to use an old tax rate chart and Bill de Blasio and his wife continue to pay low taxes (less than half of our tax for a bigger house that’s closer to the city and has a working subway nearby). Councilman Joe Borelli also pays more than the Mayor, so he introduced a resolution for property tax last Winter, yet the Council has not followed up on it.
