NYC Council Just Realized Schools in NYC are Overcrowded

Sometimes people like to produce reports.  It makes it look like they were productive.

Mark Treyger, the Education Committee Chair of the NYC Council and Corey Johnson, the Speaker of NYC Council released the report:  Planning to Learn: The School Building Challenge.  Yes, that really is the pretentious name of the report. It couldn’t just be called Plan for Overcrowded Schools in NYC.

When you see a name like that you know no one is intending to alleviate the problem, it’s really all about “producing the report.”  We just need an acronym for the report -> PTL: SBC

The report has a lot of charts showing growth. It has some old laws from 1969 included in it. But it has no solutions for this month, next month, May or June.  It’s just a report politicians will push around for awhile.  In September it will be six months later and  teachers will still see the same crowded classrooms.

For today, it was worth a press release off to some local news sites in hopes that people think something is happening.

When will Mark Treyger and Corey Johnson get that we don’t need any more reports or press releases?  We need people who are able to make action plans and carry out the plan.

**On page 8 of the report, it will show that the Brooklyn’s District 20 is growing in 2020, 2030, but declining in 2040.  Many years ago, we saw politicians present this district with the numbers for 2010 and 2020. They projected that we weren’t going to have the amount of seats needed.  Past pols were just as busy “producing paper reports with pretty charts.”

Slight chuckle – right click on this report and try saving the report.  You will see it was saved in high resolution because report pushers want you to see the pictures of the school buildings in the report. Don’t worry about overcrowding folks, look at the pretty pictures of the schools.

In some reports, you will get a random picture like this thrown in: (page 5)  It’s an odd setup, but most concerning is the bookcase in the back that has no books. Whoever put out this report, should load that empty bookcase with book STAT.

Page 60 of the report is the empty piece of paper with th City Council Logo to say smugly: “There you go!”  To someone pushing a paper, that is important.

Oh and Mr. Treyger and Mr. Johnson if you don’t want to hear from me, stop the nonsense press releases.

Hugs,
marlene
