No Bullets at KFC – Fake News
The glass window at KFC was broken. Someone shared the picture on Facebook and asked if people knew what happened. The Internet chimed in with a lot of emotion and it was implied that the glass was shot out.
There was no shooting.
Before the truth came out, a few Bay Ridginals questioned why someone would assume there was a shooting and suggested people go and ask the fast food place.
One Ridgite had the lowdown: “I talked to the manager about this the other day. The windows on the parking lot side got smashed by a car, the windows on the 92nd side were smashed by some kids with a brick. The car smash happened first then later in the afternoon the kids smashed the window.”
An establishment owner on that block wrote: “Someone threw a brick at the window and ran away late Saturday night last weekend. My husband and I observed it and called 911. The local precinct was on it within minutes. Those of you saying it was bullet holes or that this is pervasive: stop needlessly fear-mongering. My husband owns a business on that block, first time we’ve seen anything like this happen.”
On Facebook, it’s who can be the most dramatic and get the online game going. It’s also a fear-mongering technique – that’s been caught on before.
