Meeting at Christ Church on HPV Vaccine – 1/29

Christ Church in Bay Ridge is having a community meeting on Wednesday night at 7301 Ridge Blvd. to discuss the new laws and vaccines that the NYS Senate and Assembly will be voting on soon.

Senate Bill S298A, sponsored by Senator Brad Hoylman, states that children will be required to get vaccinations including the HPV vaccine. It also allows children to get these vaccines at their school without their parent’s permission.

Mary Holland, an attorney and writer will be speaking at the meeting. Holland has co-written two books, Vaccine Epidemic and The HPV Vaccine on Trial.   Without taking away from Holland, I think Christ Church should invite a local pediatrician to speak about the medical benefits of the vaccine and let parents have as much information to decide themselves – without the government telling people what to do with their body.

Yet, this bill doesn’t just have anti-vaxxers alarmed. Many parents are taken back by the government’s overreach in forcing a child to receive the HPV even though it doesn’t happen through casual contact. Parents are more alarmed that children could receive these shots at their schools under this new bill AND a child does not need permission from a parent to get the vaccine.

How is the pharmaceutical company that makes the HPV vaccine involved with NYS politicians?  A quick search shows Merck is the maker of Gardisil, the vaccine for HPV.  Merck is also the maker of the measles vaccine and they made $$  with the measles outbreak last Spring – See here

A search for Governor Cuomo and Merck also has a lot of information. See here

I doubt this law will pass, but anything is possible.

You can post your objections to this bill here and here – both sites have a section on the right that asks if you support that bill. There are two sites because the bill is in the Senate and the Assembly.
