Marty Golden Failed Bay Ridge and PS 104

On Friday, March 16th the Bay Ridge Community Council held a rally and Marty Golden, Councilman Brannan, Congressman Donovan and Nicole Malliotakis attended (even though this isn’t her area and she says “this isn’t my district,” but today she wasn’t complaining because there was free press)  The rally was outside of 9114-9118 4th Avenue against the hotel being built across from PS 104.  It was then that we found out for sure that Senator Golden had failed Bay Ridge:

  • Marty Golden announced that he knew about hotel for FOUR WEEKS. That’s a long time to not take ANY action until TODAY. Senator Golden didn’t even think it was his responsibility to send out information and let residents know about this. He said he tried contacting the buyers, but they didn’t respond.

  • Senator Golden announced he was going to start a petition TODAY. If he knew about this for FOUR WEEKS why didn’t he do something WEEKS ago? Senator Golden’s staffer circulated petitions for other things – I wrote about this on March 11th – why didn’t his staffer make a petition BEFORE the prospective owners (we were told it’s a group of doctors and others) applied to the city for this location?

  • If Senator Golden held the rally and made a petition FOUR WEEKS ago stopped the buyers from building the hotel.  MAYBE!   The contractor filed the prefiling with the Building Department on March 14th ( if the Depart of Buildings is down, here is the Prefiling: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4and then Marty decided to hold the rally.

  • Senator Golden and Assemblywoman Pam Harris have made no laws to stop or restrict here:

  • Did Windows R We shop owners realize Senator Golden knew about the hotel for FOUR WEEKS and did nothing?

  • PS 104/IS 104  is across the street from the empty lot is owed a lot of money and Senator Golden hasn’t done anything to help them get it.

  • PS 104/IS 104 is overcrowded and this location should have been secured as an annex to that school. Grade 7 & 8 students could have had classrooms

  • Four Weeks ago. Senator Golden and Assemblywoman Malliotakis could have taken action and introduced a bill to stop deBlasio from using hotels as homeless shelters.  Malliotakis doesn’t represent this area of Bay Ridge, but she showed up at the rally because she wanted to be in the picture.

  • If Nicole Malliotakis wanted to help, why didn’t she take action four weeks ago when Golden told her about the hotel. They could have written a bill before the documents for the hotel were filed with the Building Department. Heck, they could have written to the current owner and persuaded him to sell to a different buyer.

  • These are lawmakers who think that rallying and writing a petition AFTER the hotel’s paperwork has been filed with the NYC Building Department is okay with us . It’s not. We will vote out Golden in November.

  • We need new state representatives who want to write legislation to protect this community. Why haven’t these politicians countered the prefiling? Because they are too busy holding a stupid rally for photographs, rather than investigating why a hotel isn’t zoned for the area.  Golden held up the paperwork at the rally so he knows holding a rally is too late to stop anything from being filed.

At the top of Part 1 there is a statement that says the building is subject to the Department of Development’s Challenge Process.

Josephine Beckmann shared the information about the hotel at the Community Board 10 Meeting on February 26, 2018, even though no paperwork had been filed with the city yet because she wanted Bay Ridge residents to be aware of what was going on. Why did Senator Golden wait until March 16th to hold a rally when he claimed to have known about this situation for FOUR WEEKS?

In the video above at  1:14, you can hear Josephine spoke about test pits that were dug at 9114 – 5th Avenue and a hotel was planned. She speaks that this project (and another one) are “as of right projects” (which means that the builder is building within the legal limits for the area.

At 1:36 in the video, a member of Community Board 10 presents the problems that it is quality of life issue of a hotel being placed across from PS 104. On February 26th, Josephine said that nothing had been recorded (but she had the name of the contractor/person). Why didn’t Golden DO SOMETHING back then?

Let’s see if our local papers carry the truth of this situation and Senator Golden’s lack of leadership and silence for FOUR WEEKS or if they go for the dramatic picture of a politician who has played politics in Bay Ridge for too long.

marlene
