Bay Ridge Boom – Explosion on Saturdays 2:45 pm in Bay Ridge – Dyker Heights
On Saturday afternoons around 2:30- 2:50 pm, residents are hearing a loud sound but they can’t figure it out.
We were out shopping this Saturday and we pulled over at 77th Street to listen. We heard the explosion at 2:46 pm – just like people said! It didn’t happen on 77th Street and sounded like it came from 75th Street.
BOOM!
It was louder than a manhole explosion…..maybe huge fireworks leftover from Chinese New Year? But that doesn’t explain the last weeks/months of this loud Saturday afternoon sound.
March 4, 2018 Update: Councilman Brannan said that his Chief of Staff, Chris McCreight heard it when he was on 83rd between 7th and 10th Avenue (when he was here)
March 10th – Residents heard the boom at 2:30 pm today.
Today 3/17/18 – the explosion sound was right before 2 pm (around 1:45 pm)
Someone said it was the King Fook funeral parlor at 6920 Fort Hamilton Parkway (it’s on the corner at 70th Street). They set off fireworks to ward off the bad spirits during funerals. BUT Strangely, I called the funeral parlor last week and I spoke to the manager. He said they don’t have any fireworks or explosions and he has never heard any noise on Saturday afternoon. BTW, he was extremely nice as well. The manager said he never heard the sound, but was interested in the story just as many of us are interested in the mysterious noise.
Could there be another Asian funeral parlor in the area?
Futher…..someone contacted the funeral home and they said they didn’t have any funerals at the time that these loud explosions are heard.
4/14 – Loud sound like M80’s exploding between 12:45 pm- 12:50 pm. Then again 3 booms at 9:18, 9:19 and 9:20 pm.
1/26/19 – Its back – The boom happened right before 2:00 today.
We need to do a neighborhood thing stand on different corners and see where this M80 like explosion is coming from. LOL.

My husband and I hear the same one loud boom every Saturday for months. They’re around the hours of 1:45pm-3:00pm. We’re in the Bay Ridge area where everyone else has heard it. We wanna know what it is.
