BLM Protest in Dyker Heights Today
There was a small Black Lives Matter protest in Dyker Heights today. This group also did the protest yesterday on 86th Street and a few weeks ago as well. They are here for the right reasons and have a nice banner.
The violence at the last protest due to political groups not running the protest correctly put a damper on the BLM Movement. People were afraid of antifa showing up again.
The chants the protesters did are important. Today’s chants: a) Show me what community looks like (Response: This is what community looks like b) How do you spell racist? (Response chant: NYPD) c) Say his name: (George Floyd) d) Say her name: (Breonna Taylor)
When people saw this flyer, they thought it was the same group because there was no group name on the flyer.
If this peaceful group has another protest, you should write: “We have held three peaceful protests in the area.” People will join you again.
Video shows the police thought the group wanted to walk near the Verrazzano Bridge, so the police shut down the entrance.
The group remained peaceful, but their chants got a little weird: “I don’t see no riot here – why are you in riot gear.”
The police did not engage with the protesters. They needed to block the bridge entrance to make sure no one got hurt.
Hugs,
marlene
