Are Your Children Proud to Be Americans?

I felt so differently about this when I wrote it years ago.

Now I feel that this is America and we are all lucky to choose if we want to stand or not for the pledge….I still hope that young people want to stand, but there are so many reasons they don’t and we need to hear them and allow them to express themselves.

We are America because people can chose to do that here.

Hugs,
marlene

    Maybe I am an idealist.

Anyone who is lucky enough to have been born here, and anyone who CHOSE (or their parents chose) to come here should be taught not only respect for, but allegiance to our flag and our country.

We ARE failing them if we are not teaching them – but the worst part of it all as that they would learn by example and if the kids aren’t doing it, the parents aren’t either.

Many parents today are failing their kids, this country and humanity by leaving them to develop their own morals and values code. There is a lack of discipline, a lack or structure and a lack of control. Spare the rod….

I am Canadian but the problem is the same here if not worse – I agree we are failing our children they have no idea….

I think showing respect for the US as a country is important in making our country strong.

As a Veteran, USCG I can’t understand why parents would not instill even the smallest amount of respect in their children. Here in lies quite a few of our problems now. If it is not taught at home where will they get it? It is not the responsibility of our teachers to ensure our kids get it! And along the lines of immigration, if they choose to be here they darn well (have a more colorful expression then that but bit my tongue) better have a bit of respect for the flag and the country they chose to live in. sorry for the rant could go on but a lot of things today have my dander up agree with Kim .. Spare the rod
